The resort of Hurghada remained a fishing village until about 50 years ago when it started expanding to accommodate the tourist trade. It is now one of the best Egyptian holiday destinations with about 30 km of Hotels along the Red Sea coast.
Hurghada is know for it's lively nightlife with most hotels having their own entertainment and discos. There are many clubs to be found along the main street, along with loads of inexpensive and expensive hotels. Many restaurants, bars and shops and internet cafes are to be found all over Hurghada.
Hurghada has become an international center for aquatic sports like windsurfing, sailing, deep-sea fishing, swimming, and above all snorkeling and diving. The resort provides a gateway to prime diving sites throughout the Red Sea.
